San Jose Mercury News: Pat's Run Brings out Thousands of Friends, Veterans in San Jose

The San Jose Mercury News spoke to IAVA Member Veterans Tony Duynstee, Brenda Torres and Mar Cainglet about their participation in Pat's Run 2009 in San Jose, CA to honor the life and legacy of fallen hero Pat Tillman.

"I just came out to support the service and sacrifice that Pat Tillman represents," said Duynstee, now an MBA student at the University of California-Berkeley. "He was an exceptional pro football player, and he put that aside to go serve his country."

"To me it meant a lot to be here," Torres said. "A lot of people forget about us, so we've got to show our support for our battle buddies whenever we can. We don't have events like this in L.A. I feel appreciated up here."

"Because of him, thousands of us are here, united by our respect for what he did," Cainglet said of the race's lodestar. "We're all connected to each other through Pat."
