IAVA is looking for a bright, talented and experienced professional to play an administrative role in support IAVA's New York City office. The Office Coordinator will assist in developing and maintaining an extensive schedule, and in writing various correspondences. This role reports to the Senior Advisor to the Executive Director. This role will have high-level exposure to an exciting world of political, military, nonprofit and corporate leaders, and will have a chance to significantly affect IAVA's overall productivity.
Responsibilities:
- Help manage internal and external scheduling requests
- Liaise with external contacts to execute ED’s schedule
- Assist in writing a variety of correspondences
- Compile concise briefings for meetings and events
- Input new external contacts into the contact database
- Book travel and prepare itineraries for travel
- Serve as reception for incoming phone calls
- Perform other administrative duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- 2+ years experience working in a high-paced corporate office or political arena
- Track record of delivering superior results, commanding respect, and assuming leadership roles

Based in our New York City office, the Communications Coordinator will support the Communications team to raise public awareness of IAVA’s mission and the challenges impacting Iraq and Afghanistan veterans and their families. In this role, s/he will play an integral role in executing our press strategy, pitching reporters on our issues, and cultivating a national roster of veteran spokespeople to represent the public face and voice of the organization. In addition, s/he will help craft IAVA’s national email communications and social media strategy to engage our 200,000 member veterans and supporters.
For the position, we seek an exceptional writer, professed news/social media junkie and self-starter who thrives on deadlines, is passionate about pushing IAVA’s message in the media and ultimately wants to help a new generation of veterans share their stories with the American public. For the right candidate, the position offers a tremendous opportunity to learn and advance quickly in the communications field. The role will report directly to the Communications Director.
Responsibilities:
Supporting overall press strategy for IAVA programs, policies and campaigns:
- Tracking the news and breaking alerts about the wars, U.S. military, veterans issues, and developments on Capitol Hill;
- Generating and distributing the IAVA Daily News Brief for members and supporters;
- Drafting press releases, statements and talking points for media under the guidance of the Communications Director;
- Press intake, pitching and placement of spokespeople;
- Cultivating IAVA’s national roster of veteran spokespeople;
- Working with other departments to generate daily content for our in-house blogs on IAVA.org and NewGIBill.org;
- Supporting the Senior Writing Manager with research for opeds and other writing projects tied to key campaigns and initiatives including Veterans Day, Memorial Day, etc;
- Organizing press conferences, speaking engagements, and other IAVA events;
- Filing and maintaining IAVA’s online press archive and database.
Supporting overall constituent communications strategy for IAVA programs, policies and campaigns:
- Drafting and distributing national and local email communications to our veteran and civilian supporter lists under the guidance of the Communications Director;
- Managing the national and local email calendar(s) week-to-week;
- Tracking overall list growth and email analytics week-to-week;
- Managing and drafting daily content for IAVA’s social media properties including Facebook, Twitter, Community of Veterans, YouTube, etc.
Qualifications:
- Exceptional writing and communications skills

- Basic understanding of HTML and web publishing
- Salesforce data management, Photoshop and video editing skills a plus

The Research Director will lead the development of the organization’s short and long-term research plan and policy recommendations on veterans’ issues in collaboration with the Chief Policy Officer. S/he will also lead a small staff of research professionals that provides rapid-response and best-in-class research to members of the media, Capitol Hill, policy makers, and other departments within the organization.
The Research Director will work closely with the Chief Policy Officer to define the most urgent issues facing new veterans and ensure that IAVA’s policy recommendations and external materials are grounded in rigorous, nonpartisan research and analysis. S/he will be the lead author of IAVA’s policy materials, which are often cited by the media and used extensively on Capitol Hill, including the only monthly analysis of relevant unemployment and suicide rates.
The Research Director will also be responsible for growing IAVA’s presence within academia and research institutions and manage a growing research staff. This is the ideal position for a research professional wishing to join an energetic, highly visible team, helping win important battles on Capitol Hill and around the country.
The Research Director will report to IAVA’s Chief Policy Officer.
Responsibilities:
- Develop IAVA’s short and long-term research plan and policy recommendations in coordination with Chief Policy Officer.
- Ensure IAVA has the most up-to-date and accurate data, information and ideas about issues impacting new veterans.
- Conduct primary and secondary research of issues facing new veterans and conceptualize, write and edit IAVA's Issue Reports, blogs, white papers and other research documents.
- Oversee production, fielding and analysis of IAVA’s member surveys.
- Work closely with Chief Policy Officer to develop IAVA's annual Policy Agenda.
- Manage outside vendors to produce and distribute research materials.
- Manage a staff of 1-3 research professionals.Work with other IAVA departments and Executive Director to promote IAVA's research materials.
Experience Required:
- Four + years experience in public policy research or a related field.
- Experience managing, from conception to completion, at least one major publication or research project.
- Advanced degree (such as MPP, MPA or JD) preferred.
- Experience working with veterans’ issues and/or for a nonprofit or think-tank a plus.
- Experience presenting complex materials in a creative, clear, and concise manner.
- Media experience (especially on-the-record) a plus.Experience managing a small team.

IAVA is an exceptionally dynamic work environment that offers staff a unique opportunity to become involved with some of the most important issues facing the nation. Based in our New York City headquarters, we are seeking a Development Associate, Stewardship for our Resource Division.
IAVA’s Development Associate is the right position for a professional who has experience and proficiency in managing data, gift acknowledgement, stewardship, and official reporting for the purposes of fundraising and development. The Development Associate will be responsible for the department’s database management using Salesforce CRM, gift processing, overall data integrity and reporting between the Development and Operations departments.
S/he will also support the research and donor-prospecting efforts of the Development Department, while ensuring accurate information is developed for internal and external parties. S/he will also ensure that IAVA’s fundraising filings are in compliance with state regulations.
The Development Associate will work with a growing team focused on strengthening and diversifying IAVA’s fundraising base. The ideal candidate is someone who can work effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced, innovative and entrepreneurial environment and has proven their ambition and leadership experience in a professional or military setting.
The Development Associate will report to the Development Director.
Responsibilities:
- Manage all incoming donations and accurately import gift and contact data into Salesforce with impeccable attention to detail.
- Create and modify queries and reports, ensuring the integrity and usability of those reports for internal and external use.
- Generate quality donor lists and maintain accurate, up-to-date records.
- Work with accounting staff to reconcile donations transactions and check deposits.
- Prepare timely acknowledgments for gifts.
- Provide support for foundation, grant and donor research and prospecting.
- Provide support for event planning, direct mail campaigns, and other national campaigns as needed.
- Perform related tasks as assigned.Act as point person with Salesforce Administrator and institute data quality control measures.Research and create briefs on donors and prospects.
Qualifications:
2+ years experience in development and fundraising data and project management.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with meticulous attention to detail.
- Strong facility with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel.
- Knowledge of Salesforce CRM a plus.

The Development Coordinator, Events will support the Resource team in planning, coordinating and evaluating IAVA’s fundraising efforts through large and small-scale local and national events. The ideal candidate will be organized, thorough and able to handle a multitude of details at once. Diverse event management experience is a must; fundraising experience is preferred.

Responsibilities:
- Assist in the planning and execution of fundraisers and special events, including;

- Organizing logistics and follow-up
- Input donor data and track fundraising efforts using Salesforce – IAVA’s donor management database
