ABOUT IAVA
| The Fifth Annual Heroes Gala is the kickoff event of New York City’s Veterans Week. Hundreds of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans will be marching on behalf of IAVA in the city’s flagship Veteran’s Day Parade and veterans will be organizing and participating in local events across the country. IAVA would like to make Veteran’s Day 11/11/11 the largest celebration of veterans across the country. |
Founded in 2004 by Iraq veteran Paul Rieckhoff, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) is the nation’s first and largest non-profit, nonpartisan organization committed to improving the lives of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans and their families.
After a decade of war, Iraq and Afghanistan veterans continue to face a unique set of issues, including unemployment, access to education benefits, and mental health injuries like depression, Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
IAVA improves the lives of veterans by providing services and solutions for these issues, building awareness, creating dynamic programs, and by providing assistance and advocacy on behalf of returning veterans.
