In October 2010 IAVA launched “Welcome Home Joe – Thanks a Million” in partnership with Joseph Abboud and JCPenney. This national campaign donated $1 million in business apparel to to 5,000 Iraq and Afghanistan veterans. Within one hour of the partnership launch, more than 1,000 certificates had been requested. Four days later, all 5,000 certificates had been requested.
This partnership also engaged the American public by featuring IAVA veterans in JCPenney’s advertising and marketing materials and through the Combat to Careers care package event in New York City. IAVA co-hosted the event with Joseph Abboud and some of New York’s best football players, including Shaun O’Hara, Matt Dodge, Deon Grant, Kevin Boss, Terrell Thomas, Bear Pascoe and Cory Webster. JCPenney customers and football fans joined the players and NYC-area IAVA member veterans to assemble over 200 care packages filled with useful items for job interviews and new careers.
