HIRE VETERANS: In real numbers, 239,000 Iraq and Afghanistan veterans were left struggling to find gainful employment in February. Companies large and small can help end current trend lines by allocating jobs for veterans.
JOIN IAVA'S SMART JOB FAIRS: IAVA is hosting five Smart Job Fairs across the country in San Francisco, Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas and NYC. These are high touch, data-driven events, providing veterans with a full range of service, from G.I. Bill help, to resume workshops and networking opportunities. Click here to learn more about our San Francisco Smart Job Fair, and email firstname.lastname@example.org to participate in upcoming fairs.
ESTABLISH BEST PRACTICES: Develop a set of best practices for recruiting, hiring and training veterans that can be disseminated and adopted by all public and private organizations. These include:
PROVIDE LOANS: Ensure access to capital, insurance and bonding to veteran small business owners to mitigate the effects of frequent and lengthy deployments.
HOST A SUMMIT: Convene a cross-sector summit on veteran employment that connects veterans, corporate leaders and community-based nonprofit organizations.
ESTABLISH A VETERANS GROUP: Facilitate the development of internal veterans affinity groups and encourage support and mentorship programs across veteran and civilian employees.
PARTNER WITH IAVA: Collaborate with IAVA to facilitate veterans’ transition from the military to civilian workforce. Email email@example.com for more information.
LAUNCH A DATABASE: Help build and fund a national database of employment opportunities for veterans that is inclusive, easily navigable and connects veterans with jobs that value their unique knowledge and experience.
FUND RESEARCH: Provide research funding for a study in coordination with the DoD, VA, DOL and Department of Education on the similarities and differences between military and civilian vocational certifications and licenses.
