IAVA Member Veterans Attend "Homes for Our Troops" Gala
June 13

On June 13th, IAVA Member Veterans Aubrey Arcangel, Jay Driscoll and Bryan Adams attended the 3rd Annual “Homes for Our Troops” Gala in Boston, MA.  Founded in 2004, the organization is committed to helping those who have selflessly given to our country and returned home with serious injuries and disabilities.  Its primary mission:  to build handicap accessible homes for our nation's wounded veterans and their families.

In an amazing show of support and patriotism, over 500 donors attended the 3rd Annual Gala to meet veterans and famlies from across the country who have benefited from the new, more easily accessible homes.  During a live auction, which included a ride in the cockpit of a fighter jet and extremely rare prints from Iwo Jima, they helped raise a significant amount of funding to build homes for countless other veterans in need.

According to Arcangel and Adams, the most touching moment during the event was a speech by a young, paralyzed soldier who credited the organization with saving his life.  Amid a VA claims delay and challenges posed by paralysis, he spoke about how he felt like he had nowhere to turn until the “Homes for Our Troops” foundation stepped in.  The intervention drastically changed his life.

"As an Iraq veteran and Purple Heart recipient, I was priviledged to share stories with fellow veterans at the Gala and all the more touched by the level of gratitude, respect and compassion demonstrated by the attendees," said IAVA Member Veteran Bryan Adams. "I am grateful to organizations like IAVA and "Homes for Our Troops" - they remind us that people are watching our backs even on the homefront."
