IAVA, Ad Council Debut New PSA
November 11

On Veterans Day, IAVA and the Ad Council launched the second phase of a national veteran outreach campaign by unveiling the new television PSA Camouflage, which encourages veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to connect with other veterans online and find resources for the transition home at IAVA's Community of Veterans.

Originally launched on Veteran’s Day 2008, IAVA and Ad Council's national outreach campaign encourages veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to connect with one another online, at the first and only social networking site exclusively for Iraq and Afghanistan veterans. The television, radio, print, online and outdoor ads empower veterans by directing them to critical mental health, employment and education resources for their transition to civilian life.  Learn more:

You're Not Alone:

Launched on Veterans Day 2008, the "Alone" PSAs aim to address the mental health consequences of combat, which threaten to overwhelm a new generation of veterans.

Created pro bono by ad agency BBDO New York, the campaign seeks to increase the number of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans who seek treatment for mental health issues by connecting them with other veterans in Community of Veterans where they can discuss the issues they face as they readjust to civilian life.  Explore the campaign:

We've Got Your Back:

Launched on Veterans Day 2009, the "We've Got Your Back" PSAs continue to encourage Iraq and Afghanistan veterans to connect through Community of Veterans while communicating to veterans that they are not alone and their fellow veterans “have their back."

Created pro bono by ad agency Saatchi & Saatchi, the campaign encourages veterans to maintain relationships and communicate regularly with other veterans who have shared experiences.  Explore the campaign:

Community of Veterans:

Since the launch on Veteran’s Day 2008, IAVA’s online community has become a robust social network helping thousands of veterans with their transition home.

There are more than 200 groups in COV - ranging from Purple Heart recipients to PTSD Help to Veteran Video Gamers - that have formed the backbone of a critical support network for new veterans. With veterans from every state represented, the community has become a critical tool for connecting veterans who are often geographically dispersed.

If you would like to support this campaign by running these PSAs in donated media, please contact Katie VanLangen, director of Strategic Partnerships, at katie[at]iava.org.
