Read: Zadroga Update – Thanksgiving Week Recess

Although Congress is out of session this week due to the Thanksgiving week recess, yesterday the IAVA Legislative Team met with the office of Rep. Jackie Speier (D-CA) at their request. She is a cosponsor the the Zadroga bill and a sponsor of legislation to protect the Post-9/11 GI Bill. We discussed path to passage for Zadroga and asked that she seek additional support from her colleagues that are not yet cosponsors.

Additional meetings are set up for today with House Veterans’ Affairs Committee Republican Members to ask that they cosponsor the Zadroga bill.

Legislative Team continues to seek additional meetings for next week after Congress returns from Thanksgiving break, including with bill sponsors to chart way to success. We will also provide update to next week’s The Military Coalition (TMC) meeting and seek additional VSO support.

No new cosponsors have been registered as they cannot be officially added when Congress is out. To support IAVA’s efforts to pass the Zadroga legislation, which will extend health monitoring and other benefits for 9/11 victims and first responders, email your members of Congress using IAVA’s Take Action grassroots advocacy tool.
