San Jose Caps Successful Pat's Run 2009
Posted by Stephen Taylor on April 28

Team IAVA had another successful turnout this weekend for Pat’s Run in San Jose, California. More than 60 IAVA veteran members, friends, and families showed up at Leland High School Saturday morning to participate in the annual event. Several people drove from San Francisco, including members of the Student Veterans Group from Diablo Valley College and UC Berkeley. Special recognition goes to Brenda Torres and Tracey Cooper-Harris who drove all the way from Los Angeles!

Last weekend 20,000 runners participated at Pat’s Run in Tempe, Arizona. This weekend the race in San Jose attracted a smaller crowd of 3,000 participants. However, what the San Jose run lacked in numbers it more than made up for in heart. The event was held at Pat Tillman’s alma mater, Leland High School. Hundreds of Leland High School students served as volunteers helping runners register and handing out water during the race. The race route weaved through the surrounding neighborhood and runners were cheered on by supporters and friends many with personal connections to the Tillman family. The 4.2 mile race finished at the 42 yard line of the football field at Leland High School since renamed Pat Tillman Stadium.
Thank you to everyone who participated in both Tempe and San Jose. IAVA looks forward to seeing you again next year!
