Rucksack Roundup
Posted by Christina Kim on September 18 2012

According to the Department of Labor, 10.9% of post-9/11 veterans are unemployed in America right now. In an effort to support veterans as they transition out of the military and into new careers, IAVA is working with a number of best in class partners who are committed to connecting veterans with job opportunities, career resources and much more. Be sure to head over to The Rucksack to see what resources, services, and events we have open for IAVA Member Veterans around the country.

Advertising Week Job Fair:

As one of the advertising and media industry’s most-anticipated events of the year, Advertising Week is hosting a job fair exclusively for veterans. IAVA members will have the opportunity to get their resumes in front of top tier companies across the advertising, production and media space. Worried you’re not the next Don Draper? There are a wealth of different opportunities and areas where your skills, experience and expertise will be applicable -- including sales, account management, finance, film and media production, digital and much more! Make sure you sign up today!

By signing up for the job fair, IAVA vets will also get to attend a panel featuring military veterans who will share their experiences in the advertising industry, including IAVA Board Chairman, Vietnam vet and former advertising executive Ed Vick. You will also participate in a pre-event call where you’ll be able to ask questions about the event and get tips on your resume, interview pointers, and much more. Attending vets will also get access to other special opportunities and a tote bag featuring materials to help you go from Combat to Career!

McKinsey & Company -- Veteran Transition Workshops:

As one of the world’s most experienced and lauded management consulting firms, McKinsey & Company is teaming up with IAVA to connect new veterans with a series of workshops designed to help them navigate their transition out of the military. McKinsey’s Veteran Transition Workshops will help veterans understand their career options and position themselves to achieve their career and educational goals. Working one-on-one with experts across business, education and professional development fields, veterans will get that extra edge as they take the next step in their careers.

The workshops will focus on interview skills training, career planning, industry orientation, higher education and more. Additionally, McKinsey will be hosting two sets of workshops, so be sure to head over to The Rucksack to get more information and sign up today!

Job Openings:

Make sure you don’t miss out on job postings from the following companies who are actively looking to hire new veterans. These companies aren’t just paying veterans lip service -- they’ve reached out to IAVA with openings that they want to hire new veterans for.
