IAVA to Honor Restrepo Directors Sebastian Junger, Tim Hetherington at Heroes Celebration
Posted by Michelle McCarthy on April 25 2011

On April 27th, IAVA will host its Third Annual Heroes Celebration in Los Angeles honoring as planned the work of Sebastian Junger and Tim Hetherington, filmmakers of the Oscar-nominated documentary Restrepo, with the inaugural Leadership in Entertainment Award.

This inspiring, star-studded event will bring together active-duty service members, veterans and wounded warriors from the LA area and distinguished members of the media, sports, politics and entertainment communities. At the Celebration, IAVA will pay special tribute to Tim’s life and legacy following his tragic loss last week covering the conflict in Libya.

Special guest Bill Cowher, legendary Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers head coach and CBS football analyst, will present the inaugural award to Sebastian on behalf of Tim and the soldiers of Battle Company who they embedded with in Afghanistan's Korengal Valley in 2007-2008.  Robert Gupta, First Violinist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, will perform a special tribute. Patrick Murphy, the first Iraq veteran elected to Congress, will host the evening.
