Mission: Hurricane Sandy
Posted by IAVA Staff on November 1 2012

This week, millions across the east coast are suffering unthinkable tragedy on the heels of Hurricane Sandy. Organizations and individuals across the country are mobilizing to their aid—and IAVA is among them. Staff is safe and sound—with some already activated to serve in the National Guard. And IAVA’s National HQ in New York City is now up and running to support our community in this time of need.

There are vets without homes, VA hospitals have been evacuated and some wounded vets are more isolated than ever. At IAVA, we know it’s time to double down.

If you’re on the east coast and need help after the storm, see our blog for the latest resources and updates from the VA, FEMA, the Red Cross as well as IAVA’s support system. If you’re in the New York/Tri-state area, and want to volunteer with clean up and rescue efforts, click here to learn how.

And Veterans Day 2012 is now only 11 days away. In times like this, our community needs Vets Day more than ever. We need resources in the wake of disasters like Hurricane Sandy, and we need each other. Vets Day might be the first time cities across the nation come back together to celebrate and honor, and we’re going to make it count. If you haven’t already signed up to attend a Veterans Day event, check them out now—you won’t regret it.

Everyone at IAVA feels lucky to be safe after this unprecedented storm. We also feel very fortunate to work at an organization that can make a difference in times like these, when we must come together as a country—from coast to coast. And Iraq and Afghanistan veterans will lead the way.

As our mission statement reads: IAVA is here to improve the lives of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans and their families.  Through thick and thin, with your support, we intend to do so.

Get Involved

In just the last year, IAVA has connected hundreds of veterans with employers through innovative career fairs, helped over 10,000 veterans go to college on the New GI Bill, and provided mental health support to over 50,000 veterans—all at no cost to Member Veterans. Programs like these are only made possible through your generous support. Fight for those who fought for us and help us keep these resources and benefits completely free for new veterans and their families. DONATE >>

Not an IAVA member yet? What are you waiting for?! IAVA Member Veterans get access to exclusive career fairs, events and tickets. Join up today--membership is free and all you have to do is submit proof of OIF/OND/OEF status.
