Joint IED Neutralizers Face Red Tape
Posted by General on November 30 1999

A new high - tech military vehicle. the Joint IED Neutralizer. has been developed to combat the problem of IEDs in Iraq.  This new device blows up IEDs with a directed electrical charge. A prototype which has been tested at a military base in Arizona found that the JIN destroyed 90% of IEDs.  While these new devices could improve the safety of our Troops significantly.  no JINs have been sent to Iraq due to bureaucratic obstacles.  The Marine Corps has decided to dismiss the Pentagon's claim that the JIN requires more testing and to circumvent the testing schedule to send JIN unites to the Al Anbar province of Iraq. The Army projects a shortfall of 3.500 active duty officers by 2007. including mostly captains and majors.  The demand has been especially high for those fields strained by the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan such as transport. military intelligence. Special Forces. military police and civil affairs.  The shortage is less of a reflection of low recruitment numbers. however. but of promotion and retention rates.  One new program that has been implemented as an incentive is the increase of 400 to 600 slots available for junior officers to attend fully funded graduate schools for serving three additional years for each year of study.  Promotion rates have also increased; the required time between promotion from Lieutenant to Captain was lowered form 42 months to 38 months. A new movie about the transition from military to civilian life. entitled "Home of the Brave" begins production next month.  The movie. starring Samuel L Jackson as a military doctor. will portray the difficulties that Troops face after coming home from serving in Iraq. [link]
