The 3rd annual G.I. Film Festival was held this weekend in Washington, DC. IAVA was proud to be an official sponsor of the event, which attracted thousands of movie enthusiasts, veterans of all generations, and hundreds of IAVA members from in and around the Washington, DC area. On Sunday, IAVA showcased two films at the festival, The Way We Get By and Jerabek.

The Way We Get By is an inspirational story of a group of Maine senior citizens who have greeted nearly one million soldiers and marines as they arrive at Bangor International Airport after serving tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Jerabek is an intimate portrait of one family’s struggle dealing with the loss of their son in Iraq. The film chronicles the changes in the lives of the Jerabek family as they confront the cost of losing one son and the price of holding on to another.
IAVA members were able to meet with the director of Jerabek, Civia Tamarkin, and the producer of The Way We Get By, Gita Pullapilly. Bill Knight, the witty and eccentric 86 year old star of The Way We Get By, made a surprise appearance after the film and took questions from the audience.
