IAVA Members on the Front Lines of Hurricane Sandy Relief Efforts
Posted by IAVA Staff on November 27

Throughout a hugely successful Veterans Week, IAVA kept up our focus on service by coordinating IAVA members as volunteers for Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. IAVA volunteers worked alongside Team Sita, a disaster response team comprised of veterans and first responders, to serve the Staten Island community.

Hurricane Sandy had devastating effects in Staten Island, badly damaging homes and destroying entire neighborhoods. In their first weekend of service, the IAVA team, spearheaded by retired Army Major Ash Krishna, helped rebuild four homes demolished in the hurricane. Although much remains to be done, IAVA members have directly helped put these families on the road to recovery. And our work is not done: the IAVA team will be back on the front lines this weekend to continue supporting the Staten Island community rebuild and recover.

These volunteer efforts are part of our larger response in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, which affected many members of our New York and New Jersey-area communities. We have also been providing up-to-date information regarding the Manhattan VA Hospital closure, and we continue to offer case management and referral assistance to veterans directly affected by the disaster.

Get Involved:

In just the last year, IAVA has connected hundreds of veterans with employers through innovative career fairs, helped over 10,000 veterans go to college on the New GI Bill, and provided mental health support to over 50,000 veterans—all at no cost to Member Veterans. Programs like these are only made possible through your generous support. Fight for those who fought for us and help us keep these resources and benefits completely free for new veterans and their families. DONATE >>

Not an IAVA member yet? What are you waiting for?! IAVA Member Veterans get access to exclusive career fairs, events and tickets. Join up today--membership is free and all you have to do is submit proof of OIF/OND/OEF status.
