IAVA Honors Military Spouses
Posted by Blake Henderson on May 11 2012

Service members enlist. Their families are drafted.

The entire IAVA family is proud to celebrate Military Spouse Appreciation Day. Celebrated the Friday before Mother's Day since 1984, our country takes this day to acknowledge and thank military spouses for the sacrifices that they make.

IAVA recognizes the tremendous burdens military spouses many times undergo when a loved one deploys. From juggling mortgages, childcare and car payments in a time where nearly a quarter of military spouses are unemployed, we know that they are fighting the battle at home. And we couldn’t be prouder or more supportive of them. To Ellen Marty and Millie Scimia, two military spouses working in IAVA's New York and Washington offices, and the hundreds of thousands of others in the veterans' community, we salute you for your service.

Knowing about the battles they face, this is one of the main reasons why in 2011 IAVA released Unsung Heroes: Military Families After Ten Years of War, a groundbreaking issue report that highlights the challenges impacting America military spouses and families after ten years of war. In the meantime, if you know a military spouse, make sure to give them a call today and say thank you on behalf of all of us.
