IAVA Member Vets attend events nationwide around 9/11
Posted by Michael Preston on September 13 2012

As the nation took the time to reflect on the eleventh anniversary of 9/11, IAVA veterans across the country joined together to come together as a community. Whether rooting for the San Diego Padres as they beat last year’s World Series Champions St. Louis Cardinals or holding their breath during a game with playoff implications between the Detroit Tigers and the Chicago White Sox, IAVA Member Veterans and their guests were given the VIP treatment as they took to ballparks this week.

St. Louis Cardinals vs. San Diego Padres, September 10, 2012:

From coast to coast, new veterans and their families were out in full force for events with Miller High Life and IAVA. Starting in San Diego, CA, on Monday, September 10, more than 300 IAVA Member Veterans and their guests took to Petco Park to show their support of the home team as the San Diego Padres took on last year’s World Series Champion, the St. Louis Cardinals.

Knowing that there was a crowd to impress, the Padres kicked it into high gear, sending the visiting team packing -- with an impressive win of 11-3 over the Cards. In anticipation of the eleventh anniversary of 9/11, veterans were honored for their service and sacrifice by the supportive crowd and teams.

Detroit Tigers vs. Chicago White Sox, September 11, 2012:

A day later and 2,000 miles away, over 400 IAVA member veterans and their friends and families made their way to U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago to see the hometown White Sox take on the Detroit Tigers in a clash to determine the A.L. Central title.

As is their custom, Miller rolled out the red carpet for IAVA in the Windy City. Members and their guests were presented with red Miller High Life caps, t-shirts and other souvenirs for coming to the game. They also had access to a special patio party area in right field, stocked with food and drinks. Miller High Life deliveryman Windell Middlebrooks and the High Life Girls were also at the game and they took photos and mingled with the guests in attendance.

But perhaps the most special moment of the evening came during the parade lap around the stadium. IAVA members and guests were able to walk U.S. Cellular Field as a show of appreciation from Miller for their service. The crowd on hand gave IAVA a huge round on applause, especially meaningful as the game took place on the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

Even though the White Sox ended up losing 5-3, a great time was had by all members in attendance. “I had an awesome time even though we lost,” said Member Veteran Timothy Nelson. “Thanks so much for the tix!”

Added Member Veteran Moises Garcia, “Me and my friends had a great time. Thanks again!”

More events like this will on the way soon through partners such as Miller High Life. Keep checking the Rucksack and we’ll see you in your town soon!
