UPDATE: GI Bill Checks Moving, Some Banks Holding Up Progress
Posted by Tom Tarantino on October 6

Over the weekend, IAVA received a report from the VA that as of Saturday the VA has issued 14,301 GI Bill relief checks in person at VA regional offices and has received 10,605 requests online from student veterans.  The online requests should be processed in three days plus at least three days for delivery.

As of this weekend, there have been some reports of banks not cashing or depositing veterans' GI Bill checks right away.  Many of the checks issued in person are hand written and banks have been understandably cautious in cashing them before they can verify the authenticity of the $3,000 payments.  The VA has set up a webpage with a number that bank officials can call to talk directly to a VA official that will verify the authenticity of the check and ensure that veterans get their relief funds as soon as possible.

Bank officials can visit the VA's website or call VA officials at 1-800-827-2166 to verify the check’s authenticity.  According to the VA, U.S. Bank and Bank of America will cash the checks immediately with no hold up.
