From Arlington National Cemetery to The Presidio to the USS Intrepid, IAVA members and supporters united on the ground this Memorial Day for ceremonies and parades to honor the fallen. In addition to coming together in their local communities, tens of thousands of Americans pledged to #GoSilent at 12:01pm to remember those who have served our country.

‘Go Silent’ Campaign Asks Nation to Honor the Fallen this Memorial Day

Today, ahead of Memorial Day observances, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA), the nation’s first and largest nonprofit, nonpartisan organization for the veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, launched a powerful new campaign asking Americans to ‘Go Silent’ this Memorial Day in honor of the 6,442 Americans who have died in Iraq and Afghanistan since 9/11.

Fleet Week in NYC

On Thursday, May 10, I had the opportunity and honor to testify in front of the New York City Council Veterans’ Committee. I was there in behalf of IAVA about how the city should prepare for Fleet Week - which is taking place this year from May 23-30. Along with Terrance Holliday, Commissioner of the Mayor’s Office of Veterans’ Affairs, I provided recommendations to city leaders on how the city should best prepare to show NYC to the Fleet Week participants.

IAVA member Moses Maddox steals the show on Letterman

On Wednesday, May 16, IAVA Member Veteran Moses Maddox appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman. A former corporal in the Marine Corps, Moses talked about his experience serving two tours in Iraq, the importance of getting an education and his frustrations with his job search when transitioning out of the military.
