IAVA bids farewell to Tim Kudo
Posted by Paul Rieckhoff on April 13 2012

It is with deep appreciation and gratitude that we bid farewell to IAVA staffer and U.S. Marine officer Tim Kudo, who has dedicated himself to IAVA for the past year.   IAVA is home to strong leaders. Our staff and members step up in huge ways to support the organization and the 2.4 million vets we represent. Tim has embodied that ethos, as an IAVA member and an IAVA staffer.

Alarming Trend in Veteran Unemployment Continues
Posted by Kate O'Gorman on April 6 2012

This morning, the BLS released job numbers for the month of March. A reported unemployment rate of 10.3 percent for Iraq- and Afghanistan-era veterans suggests that the economic situation for veterans may be bleaker than previously thought. This report raises more questions than answers, and IAVA’s recently released member survey offers some deeper insight.

IAVA has been tirelessly posting employment opportunities over the past few months in Community of Veterans, the largest social network comprised entirely of veterans who fought in Iraq and Afghanistan. With the current unemployment rate at 17%, it is IAVA’s mission to help combat unemployment amongst veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan. One unemployed veteran is one too many.

Storm the Hill 2012: Our biggest week yet
Posted by Megan Hemler on April 3 2012

From March 26 through March 29, IAVA stormed Capitol Hill with 26 of our Member Veterans. We met with lawmakers, told our stories and urged them to pass targeted legislation. IAVA called on Congress to join us in the fight against veteran unemployment by protecting the education benefits that make college and vocational training possible, and by enhancing training for veteran entrepreneurs.

Journal of a Stormer: Day Five
Posted by John McGlothlin on April 2 2012

Earlier this year, thirty or so soldiers sat in a classroom in Vicenza, Italy on their way out of the Army. Collectively, this group spent over fifty years deployed, but we wouldn’t even spend a full week on preparing for civilian life, as the Transition Assistance Program (TAP) had been cut from the full five days into just over three. Jill Casey, our remarkable instructor, was professional about her disappointment in this, but she was clearly concerned about the cuts it forced her to make.
