Vital Veterans Legislation Faces Fight in Senate

The work of IAVA Executive Director Paul Rieckhoff on behalf of veterans was featured on CNN’s new web site. The story and accompanying video spotlighted IAVA’s efforts to address the needs of veterans, including IAVA seeing its top legislative priority achieved, when President Obama signed advance VA funding legislation into law.


NDAA Includes Critical Provisions for New Veterans

On Wednesday, the President signed the 2010 National Defense Authorization Act into law.  While this $600 Billion bill provides the Military with everything that they need to operate for the next year, it includes several provisions that will improve the lives of the men and women serving in Iraq and Afghanistan and may save countless lives by improving the way the Military handles Mental Health.

President Signs NDAA, Includes Critical Provisions for New Veterans

Today, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA), the nation’s first and largest non-partisan, nonprofit organization representing veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, applauded President Obama for signing the National Defense Authorization Bill (NDAA) which includes several of IAVA’s top legislative priorities.

Last week, I heard a baffling statistic. More Americans followed news of the runaway balloon than coverage of the war in Afghanistan.   With this noise clogging the media landscape, it’s hard to get the general public to pay attention to anything important, much less understand the tremendous sacrifices of the 1 percent of Americans serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. Fortunately, some extremely talented musicians are working to change that.
