Storm the Hill is IAVA's signature advocacy and leadership development program, bringing the stories of more than 4.1 million Post 9/11 veterans to congressional leaders in Washington. Our stormers receive first-hand experience in championing IAVA’s policy agenda and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet and interact with Members of Congress, Senators, congressional staffers, and fellow veteran leaders from across the country. Alongside extensive media and advocacy training, those selected will leverage their voice to foster positive change for the veteran community.
Each year, Storm the Hill welcomes veterans of all backgrounds to engage decision-makers on critical issues affecting Post 9/11 veterans. Stormers call on elected leaders across the political landscape to fight on behalf of this generation of veterans. They also help raise awareness for IAVA’s BIG 6 Priorities:
1. Combating suicide among troops and veterans
2. Reforming the VA for today’s veterans
3. Initiating support for injuries from burn pits and toxic exposures
4. Defending veteran and military education benefits
5. Recognizing and improving services for women veterans
6. Establishing support for veterans who want to utilize medical cannabis
Storm the Hill is an all expense paid, week-long program. We welcome applicants to apply for one of our three remaining 2019 sessions:
Fall Storm: September 16-19
In past years, Stormers have worked alongside IAVA staff, our members and veteran advocates to meet with over 100 Congressional offices and key leaders of the Executive Branch, to include the The White House. Our collective efforts have helped move the needle on addressing veteran backlogs in the VA, protected and enhanced the Post 9/11 GI Bill, and played a pivotal role in ensuring the passage of the Clay Hunt SAV Act to reduce military and veteran suicides - improving access to quality mental health care for millions of our nation’s veterans.
Come make history with us!
Applications are on a rolling basis and will be reviewed upon receipt. Applications for the next Storm the Hill will close 3 weeks prior to the start date.
