House Passes Hurricane Sandy Relief Package

Legislative Dispatches The House passed H.R. 152, the Disaster Relief Appropriations Act, 2013, yesterday evening. The bill provides over $200 million in funding to make all of the necessary repairs to the Manhattan VA, which was hit hard by Hurricane Sandy. More >

Jobs report tells two stories about veteran unemployment

Legislative Dispatches Thanks to national efforts to fight veteran unemployment, we’ve made a dent in lowering the veteran unemployment rate. Today, the Bureau of Labor Statistics released data showing that the annual average unemployment rate for post-9/11 vets decreased from 12.1 percent in 2011 to 9.9 percent in 2012—the lowest it’s been since 2008. In the News In November 2012, IAVA and the Fullbridge Program launched a new partnership to give Iraq and Afghanistan veterans the opportunity to apply for an exclusive Fullbridge Program for veterans. With an overwhelming number of applications from qualified veterans around the country, ten IAVA member veterans were selected for this all-expenses paid, intensive three-week business and entrepreneurship training course.
