Just hours before Super Bowl XLVI kicked off, Miller High Life gave one lucky IAVA member the house party experience of a lifetime.IAVA member Seth Williams gathered 14 friends and neighbors together at his home in Indianapolis to watch the big game between the New England Patriots and the New York Giants with a spread that truly celebrated the High Life!Even though his hometown Colts suffered though a rough season, before kickoff Seth found himself invested in the outcome of the contest, wanting Big Blue to pull out the victory.
On January 18th, IAVA Member Veterans from San Francisco helped unveil "Apps for Heroes" with Dr. Jill Biden at a special Joining Forces event hosted by Code for America. In their intimate San Francisco offices, forty technology experts, three IAVA members and Second Lady Dr. Jill Biden gathered to hear the innovative ways the technology sector is helping returning veterans transition to civilian life.
What better way to ring in the New Year than with some NBA Jamtime?On December 27, IAVA and Miller High Life invited 60 IAVA members veterans and their guests to the Milwaukee Bucks home opener at the Bradley Center. The competition was fierce, but the Bucks prevailed over the Timberwolves 98-95. The victory was particularly gratifying for vets who were nervous that the NBA season might not happen this year.See What Happened:
On Monday, December 19, IAVA opened up our doors to the New York City headquarters to welcome local veterans to our first annual Holiday Open House. Vets were invited to get a glimpse behind the scenes -- meet IAVA staff, check out our office, reconnect with each other, and celebrate the milestones they helped our community achieve in 2011.
On a brisk Saturday morning in early December, IAVA members gathered to celebrate the 112th meeting of the Navy Midshipmen and the Army Black Knights at Fed Ex Field in Maryland. IAVA celebrated football's oldest rivalry with a tailgate before the game, giving members a chance to stake their allegiances over hamburgers and hot dogs.
At 10 pm on November 18, two dozen IAVA members assumed a 24-hour watch at the Dignity Memorial Vietnam Wall. The monument is a scale replica of the wall in Washington D.C. and is on display at the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum as it makes its way throughout the country.Throughout the night and the next day, IAVA members endured the cold to keep the faith with their fellow veterans of the Vietnam War. Many had connections to the military due to the service of their parents.
The day after IAVA Member Veterans marched in the Atlanta Veterans Day Parade, IAVA, Miller High Life, and the Atlanta Falcons brought together 90 new veterans and their families for a historic military appreciation day at the Georgia Dome. On the field, IAVA members participated in the traditional Falcons Flag Crew and enjoyed a pre-game tailgate party prior to kick-off in the ATL Lounge.
As Americans banded together across the country on Veterans Day, IAVA and Miller High Life sent 16 IAVA member veterans and their guests to watch the First Annual Carrier Classic on the flight deck of the USS Carl Vinson in San Diego Harbor.
On November 13, IAVA Member Veterans from New York and New Jersey were treated to a once-in-a-lifetime experience at the new MetLife Stadium. As the Jets took on on their arch-rivals the New England Patriots, they watched all the field action from the best seats in the house – the Commissioners Club – thanks to the generosity of the Schwarzman family.
On October 27th, jcpenney and IAVA put on an impromptu event that literally stopped New Yorkers in their tracks. To show off new "Matters of Style" looks and introduce IAVA's "Welcome Heroes" program to the public, jcpenney threw a flash mob style fashion show featuring IAVA vets in the middle of the Manhattan Mall.
