As part of IAVA’s ongoing partnership with Miller High Life this summer, 750 IAVA members and their guests attended the Florida Marlins at the Washington Nationals game on August 11th. With a special appearance by Miller High Life deliveryman Windell Middlebrooks, a private pre-game party with an appearance from Nationals pitcher Craig Stammen, and a special military recognition, even though the Nationals lost the game, the night was a big win for IAVA members and their guests.
On August 9th, IAVA brought 1000 veterans and their families to watch the Baltimore Orioles take on the Chicago White Sox at historic Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore. With Miller High Life deliveryman Windell Middlebrooks entertaining the crowd and a strike-worthy pitch from IAVA Deputy Executive Director Todd Bowers, fans were geared up for an intense and exciting game. After being closely tied throughout game at 2-2, the Orioles went on to win the game with a single homerun in the 10th inning.
As part of the ongoing partnership with Miller High Life, IAVA sent member veteran Octavio Sanchez and his wife to the MLB All-Star Game 2010. In addition to the game, Octavio and his wife were able to experience the whole MLB All-Star weekend with passes for events such as the celebrity softball game, home run derby, and entrance to the MLB Fan Zone in addition to the game on July 13, 2010.
On July 5th, more than 350 IAVA Member Veterans and their families joined IAVA and Miller High Life at the Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Florida Marlins game at historic Dodger stadium in Los Angeles to continue the kickoff launch for our new “Give a Veteran a Piece of the High Life” campaign.

IAVA Member Veterans Mike Withers, John Lamie and their guests attended the Coke Zero 400 at the Daytona International Speedway on July 3, 2010 as part of IAVA’s partnership with Miller High Life to “Give Veterans a Piece of the High Life.” All four attendees were given “Hot Passes,” granting them access to watch the race from the Miller High Life Pit Box, meet drivers like Kurt Busch and Richard Petty, enjoy a guided tour of the track, garages, and pits, and do team meet and greets.
In observance of Memorial Day, IAVA Members from across the country gathered in our nation's capital Washington, D.C. to commemorate and honor the more than one million Americans who have died in military service for our country. On May 5th, President Obama signed the Caregivers and Veterans Omnibus Health Services Act of 2010 into law - an issue that IAVA has been pushing for over three years to help our nation's women warriors and fulltime caregivers for wounded veterans.
On April 29th, Cameron Diaz, Norman Lear, Ron Meyer and Nick Styne hosted the Second Annual Heroes Celebration, a reception to salute our newest generation of veterans and their families and to celebrate the achievements of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America. On April 20th, IAVA joined Senator Patty Murray, Senator Amy Klobuchar, and Senator Mark Begich at a press conference on Capitol Hill to introduce the Veterans Employment Act of 2010, legislation to address the 14.7 % unemployment rate among Iraq and Afghanistan-era veterans. The bill includes a series of proposals that expand employment, training, skills transition, education, small business assistance programs and placement services for veterans.
